Last Weigh-in Talk Of The Year

December 26, 2017 by Jack Elder

Okay, I just wanted to get in one more talk about the scale and weighing in. I’m sorry it has to be the day after Christmas. Don’t worry about it. Remember the scale doesn’t care what you weigh. Don’t use the excuse that you may have overeaten a little yesterday. It is what it is. This week is one of the most difficult of the holiday seasons. You are doing some visiting, eating cookies and candies people made for the occasion. Don’t despair.

Last year at this time, Charlene and I were starting another diet. We decided we didn’t want to wait until New Year’s like so many people do. We wanted to put ourselves on a diet through this difficult time and make it a good start for the next year. We reached our goal this year. I might want to lower the goal a little for the coming year. I know I can do it, because I’ve already done it.

I continue to weigh each day in order to keep an eye out for any problems developing and nip them in the bud. For you who hate the scale, learn to see it for what it is—a tool for success. Weigh on fellow weight loss travelers.

December Weigh In

December 8, 2017 by Jack Elder

Okay, this is the last time this year I’m going to check your weigh-in. If I had an acrostic for the words WEIGHTLOSS, the W would stand for Weigh Daily. Weight is the only important thing, but when you are measuring weight loss because you are on a weight-loss diet, then step on the scale every day, preferably the first thing in the morning.

If you are just eating healthy, then check your weight at least once a week to make sure you aren’t gaining weight. I weigh everyday even though I know I probably gained because I had four slices of pizza the night before. You have to take the good with the bad. My goal is if I go up any, to get it off as quickly as possible. If you don’t, weight begins to stack up.

I’ve also found that when you get your weight down to your goal, you have this thinking that if I gain weight, I know I can get it off because I just did it. Danger Will Robinson. Turn any gain into a loss immediately. Gaining weight is never good, and it will become harder to lose. Just step on the scale each day. Make adjustments. Step on the scale tomorrow.

December Progress Check

December 1, 2017 by Jack Elder

It’s time for our December progress check. How you doing? It was in the latter days of December we went on another diet, and saw it to our goals. We’ve had some ups and downs during the year, but we are still doing good. I have said repeatedly, if you went on a diet this time last year, you would probably be at your goal weight now, unless of course you have more than 100 pounds to lose. You would be celebrating by maintaining.

I will be the first to say that for us weight-challenged people, maintenance is as hard as or harder than losing the weight. You want to fall back into old eating habits. You say I’ll have this and get back on track tomorrow. We have found that it is hard to get back on track tomorrow.

If you haven’t started your weight loss diet or are between diets, December is a good time to get ready. There are lots of eating distractions in December but you can work through those. You have some time before the New Year to get a plan ready and you can even start on it before New Year’s as we did. Get ready, set, go.

November Progress Check

November 1, 2017 by Jack Elder

It’s November and time for a progress check. How you doin’? We are well into fall and the weather is cooling down. Are you still on track? Maybe you are having some trouble staying on the weight loss straight and narrow. Weight loss is hard because food is a necessity and changing the food regimen is a strain on the body. The body doesn’t like change. It likes status quo. It has gotten use to what you feed it and change requires adaptation and restoration. However, you can win over your weight problems. If you’ve put off doing anything thinking January 1, 2018 would be a good time to start, let me add that in two months you could be down 20-25 pounds. Take the two good months left this year to make a difference. I know Thanksgiving is this month. Eat smart. Thanksgiving signals the start of the “holidays” and most people start overeating. It doesn’t have to be that way. There are ways around the cookie, fruitcake crisis. I hope you can check off November as all systems go. Next Thanksgiving you will show off the skinny you.

Weigh-in and 2015 Wrap-up

December 26, 2015 by Jack Elder

5-23

This last weigh-in of the year is also on the day after Christmas. Maybe you had Christmas dinner with the family and ate too much. There’s no condemnation for that. However, the scale might have bad news for you. Oh well, so it goes—no guilt, no condemnation—only grace.

We’ve discussed a lot of weight-loss topics this year. We’ve been on the scale every Saturday and recorded another year’s worth on the spreadsheet. We are not yet sure about what we will do with this website for the coming year. With two websites to write daily blogs for, it really is time-consuming.

I’ve been plotting my weight-loss journey this year by putting my scale on each weigh-in day at the top of each weigh-in blog. In some way I have hoped this is a picture of weight loss journey and the ups and downs of dieting. The purpose is to be an example and to show what I go through each week. Not all my weigh-ins are green. (That’s the color I put on the scale when I lose.)

Remember that dieting is not law but grace. So grace and peace be with you in the coming year.

Weigh-in and More Scale Talk

December 19, 2015 by Jack Elder

5-23

This is both a weigh-in day and a travel day. We have spent a week in Ormond Beach. I like to look out the Resort room window at the beach. I like to hear the rhythms of the wave’s steady beat on the shore. Weather permitting a nice walk on the beach relaxes the body and soul. So that’s what we’ve been doing this last week.

There’s only two weigh-in days left this year. If you subtract today’s weigh-in then there is only one left. Any goals made this year have only a week left. The year 2015 is just about wrapped up.

Here’s another the scale is not your friend quote. “Within the span of days it can lift you up, pull you down, drag you through the dirt and then pick you back up again. All with a smirk on its little scale face. Because the scale knows that it’s deceiving, knows that it’s often dishonest, but it also knows that you keep coming back for more. Sometimes more than once per day.”

I’m sorry, but I only agree to agree that you get your opinion. If you think the scale should consider your feelings, then don’t step on it, especially if you have gained. No it doesn’t care. Get over it people. The scale is simply gives you a number that tells you if you lost or gained weight. If that bothers you, then lose weight and you’ll be happy with your friend the scale.
